MOORHEAD, Minn. — Dominant play at the net helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team sweep Mary, 25-18, 25-20, 25-12 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday night in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM improved to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC with the win in its home opener while Mary fell to 5-6 overall and 0-2.
The Dragons finished with 19 blocks compared to six for Mary. Junior
Kelsey Hartkopf had five assisted blocks and one solo block, while sophomore
Carly Masloski had one solo block and four assisted blocks.

Amber Krenske had a solid day with 20 digs while senior setter
Casie Baer had 37 set assists. Senior middle blocker
Kaitlin VanWinkle led the hitting attack with 15 kills, while senior hitter
Abby Wolpern had nine and Maloski seven. MSUM hit a solid .317 for the match.
The first set was tied at 7-7 before MSUM went on a 7-2 run to take a 14-9 lead. Masloski had two kills and a block assist to spark that surge. From there MSUM cruised to a 25-18 win.
The second set was tied at 2-2 before the Dragons scored six of the next seven points to take an 8-3 lead. VanWinkle sparked that stretch with two kills while Wolpern, Masloski and sophomore hitter
Claire Grimm had one each.
The Marauders came back to tie the set at 11-11 but the Dragons went on a 6-2 run to take a 16-12 lead. VanWinkle had three kills during that stretch as the Dragons built a lead they would never relinquish.
MSUM had little trouble in the third set, jumping out to a 16-9 lead and never looking back in a 25-18 win.
The Dragons will host No. 22-ranked Northern State for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday. The Wolves (10-0) have not lost a set this season.
