MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team rallied from two sets down to force a fifth set, but the comeback came up short against No. 19-ranked Northern State on Tuesday, as the Wolves prevailed, 25-19, 25-12, 22-25, 16-25, 15-9 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Northern State improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC while MSUM fell to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. The two sets won by MSUM were the first sets lost by Northern State this season.

Kelsey Hartkopf had two solo blocks and eight assists to lead MSUM at the net. Senior hitter

Casie Baer dished out 44 assists, while sophomore outside hitter
Claire Grimm had a team-high 15 kills. Sophomore hitter
Carly Masloski added 12 kills while Wolpern had 11 and senior middle blocker

Amber Krenske had 23 digs for the Dragons.
Northern State hit .259 for the match, compared to .169 for the Dragons.
After falling in the first two sets, MSUM started its comeback in the third. The Dragons faced a 21-19 deficit but scored six of the final seven points of the set to earn a 25-22 win. Grimm and VanWinkle each had a kill and a block assist for the Dragons to spark that run.
MSUM carried that momentum into the fourth set.With the set tied at 9-9, MSUM scored three straight points — two coming from kills from Masloski and Grimm — to take a 12-9 lead. MSUM pulled away steadily from there, outscoring the Wolves 13-7 the rest of the set to earn a 25-16 win. Grimm had five kills in the set while Masloski had four.
The decisive fifth set was close for the first half, as the Wolves clung to a 7-6 lead. However, Northern State scored three straight points to push the lead to 10-6, and MSUM was unable to get closer than two the rest of the way.
Baer added 12 digs for MSUM while redshirt freshman
Monica Vega had 11.
The Dragons continue their four-match homestand on Friday against St. Cloud State. The match begins at 7 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
