WHAT'S AHEAD...

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The No. 3-ranked Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball teamcontinues its four game road trip with matches at Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota this weekend. Both games will be played as a part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.Ā 

Friday night the Dragons will travel to Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul who are 6-14 on the season and 3-11 in conference play. CSP is coached by Joey James who is in his second season at the helm of the program. The Golden Bears are lead in scoring by senior Cole Olstad who has 14.3 points per game this season along with 5.4 rebounds per game. Senior Shea Mandli puts up 10.9 points per game while freshman Bryndan Matthews has 10.6 points and 5.3 boards per game. As a team, CSP has 71.8 points per game while grabbing 37.3 rebounds per game. They dish out 12.6 assists and grab 6.1 steals per game along with 2.6 blocks. MSUM holds a series record of 15-7 over the Golden Bears in all-time meetings. The game will take place at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. at 8 p.m.Ā 

Saturday afternoon the Dragons will hit the road to face the Mavericks of Minnesota State. The 14-6 (9-5 NSIC) Mavericks are coached by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 15th season at Minnesota State. As a team, MSU has 81.8 points per game along with 39.3 boards. They average 15.1 assists, 5.5 steals and 3.6 blocks per game. Senior Jalen Pendleton leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game while junior Jon Fuqua has 13.3 points and leads the team in rebounds with 7.0 rebounds per game. Freshman Joey Witthus has 11.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. In all-time meetings, the Mavericks hold an advantage over the Dragons at 30-58. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and will be played at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK...

Last Friday evening the Dragons matched up against the Golden Eagles of Minnesota-Crookston where MSUM scored in triple digits for the second game in a row and the fourth time this season and defeated UMC by a score of 106-79 in NSIC play.Ā 

MSUM was led by senior center Isaac Sevlie who had 25 points six rebounds and two blocks on the evening. Junior forward Ayob Ayob scored a career-high 23 points going an astounding six-of-six from three-point range.Ā  Junior forward Aaron Lien had 15 points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 13 points and a career-high 13 assists.

The Dragons shot 62 percent from the field and an unheard of 70 percent from three-point range. MSUM outrebounded Crookston 35-21 and had 30 points from the bench compared to 22 from UMC.

On Saturday, MSUM headed to Bemidji State to face the Beavers where they ran away with a 81-68 victory. Senior center Isaac Sevlie led all scorers with 20 points while junior guard Aaron Lien had 18 points and three assists. Senior guard Tyler Vaughan added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists and junior guard Ayob Ayob had 12 points. Senior guard Ngjiol Songolo added 11 points and sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman had six points adding eight assists.

On the game, the Dragons shot 48 percent from the field including 55 percent from three-point range while the Beavers shot 47 percent from the field and 22 percent from beyond the arc. MSUM grabbed 34 boards while BSU had 32 and the Dragons dished out 18 assists compared to 13 from the Beavers.
