MOORHEAD, Minn. — Despite wins from junior Blake Bosch and freshman Adam Blees, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team fell to Augustana, 33-7 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual Friday night in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM, which is receiving votes in the D2 coaches poll, fell to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC with the loss, while Augustana, which is receiving votes in the coaches poll and is ranked No. 20 in the latest Basford rankings, improved to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC.

Bosch, ranked No. 2 in the nation, rolled to a 15-3 major decision at 133 pounds for MSUM, while Blees beat Mitch Retchtzigel 3-0 at 165 pounds to account for the Dragons' scoring.

The dual began at 174 pounds, and Augustana opened with back-to-back falls to open a 12-0 lead. The Vikings won by major decision at 197 and 285 to stretch the lead to 20-0.

"We knew they were tough in the upper weights, and we are young up there,"  MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. "Our guys wrestled the best they could. It's just a matter of gaining experience and growing in maturity for our younger guys."

A close match was at 125, as Duncan Stoebner of Augustana edged MSUM freshman Jared Goldsmith 5-3.

Bosch got the Dragons on the board in impressive fashion, winning 15-3 over David Potratz at 133 pounds to make it 23-3. Bosch is now 24-5 on the year and has won 16 matches in a row.

Redshirt freshman Kristian Vazquez battled tough at 141 for MSUM before falling to Brandon Charbonneau, 8-5. Augustana won by major decision at 149 to push the lead to 30-3. Another tight match came at 157 when Augie senior Shawn Hatlestad edged Dragon junior Garret Hoffner, 4-3.

"The lower weights wrestled hard," Nelson said. "All the guys gave good effort. We need to find a way to win close matches. We are losing close matches and we need to find ways to win those."

Bless capped off the night with a win for MSUM, topping Retchzigel 3-0 to give the Dragons a win to close the dual.

MSUM will travel to Northern State on Thursday for another NSIC dual. That dual begins at 7 p.m. in Aberdeen, S.D.

"Our goal is to win out in duals, and we feel we can do that," Nelson said.
