Dragons Women’s Volleyball Falls to St. Cloud State, 3-0

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Volleyball team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match to St. Cloud State (8-11, 3-7 NSIC) on Friday night. The Huskies won 28-26, 25-19, and 25-10.
 
MSUM is now 8-10 overall and 3-7 in NSIC play.
 
The Dragons put down 39 kills on the evening hitting .194 as a team. Junior captain hitter and freshman hitter Courtney Selbitschka tied for a team-best 12 kills. Selbitschka finished the match with a .323 hitting percentage and a team-high 16 digs to go along with two blocks.
 
Redshirt-freshman setter Makayla Wenzel totaled 33 assists, while sophomore libero Monica Vega contributed 13 kills.
 
The first set proved to be the tightest contest of the match, needing extra points figure out a winner. The teams were neck and neck until midway through the first set when St. Cloud State went on a 5-2 run to build up a small lead at 14-11. The Dragons battled back tying the set at 24-24. Selbitschka had four kills in that stretch, Masloski had two. The Huskies took five of the next eight points to win the first set 28-26.
 
St Cloud State jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. MSUM fought back taking an 18-16 lead late in the second set. The Huskies scored the next three points to secure the lead for the final time winning 25-19. The Third set ended 25-20 in favor of St. Cloud State and featured four kills from Selbitschka, to go along with three kills apiece for Masloski and senior hitter Tyann Caspers.
 
The Dragons return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they travel to take on No. 1 Minnesota Duluth. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
