CROOKSTON, Minn. — For the second time in three years, the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock is coming back to Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Dragon women's soccer team reclaimed the rock with a 1-0 win over Minnesota Crookston in action Friday in Crookston, Minn.
MSUM improved to 3-7 overall and 2-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the win, while UMC fell to 2-8-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the league.
Junior goalkeeper
Reagan VonBerge picked up her first shutout of the season with six saves. She now has two wins in net on the year.
"It's nice to see our hard work paying off and the results showing it," VonBerge said. "Not only with a win but a shutout and bringing the rock home. I couldn't be more proud of my team."
Senior
Jessica Johnson scored the game winner for MSUM on a free kick at the 55:50 mark in the second half. It was her team-best fourth goal of 2016, and she also leads with eight points.
Johnson led with three shots, including two on goal, while sophomore
Ashley Coleman had two shots, both on goal. Freshmen
Rachel Jenson and
Lindsey Brownell each added shots.
"We executed, we worked hard and played as a team," MSUM head coach
Christie Chappell said. "I'm thrilled about the result and effort."
The Dragons return home on Sunday to face Bemidji State to wrap up MSUM's Homecoming Weekend. Game time is 1 p.m. at the MSUM Soccer Field.
