MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team fell to nonconference rival Concordia College 21-15 in a dual meet Wednesday night at Concordia's Memorial Auditorium in Moorhead, Minn. The match was tied at 15-15 with two weights remaining before the Cobbers won the final two matches to secure the win.
MSUM is now 0-1 in duals on the year while Concordia is 1-0.
The Dragons got a pin from senior
Blake Bosch, who is now 5-0 on the year, at 133 pounds. Sophomores
Dylan Connell (149),
Adam Blees (174) and
Austin May (184) all won by decision for MSUM.
Concordia won six matches overall including one by fall at 157.
Bosch got MSUM on the board with a pin of Concordia's Aaron Dick in 2:56 at 133 pounds to put the Dragons in front 6-3.
After the Cobbers tied the dual at 6-6 with a decision win at 141, Connell helped MSUM regain the lead at 9-6 with a 4-2 sudden victory over Concordia's Ty Johnson at 149 pounds.
The Cobbers won by fall at 157 to regain the lead and added a win by decision at 165 to make it 15-9.
MSUM mounted a comeback starting at 174 pounds. Blees outlasted Parker Jackson, 2-0 at 174 to bring MSUM within 15-12, and May outlasted Ricky Briggs, 6-4 (sudden victory) at 184 to tie the dual at 15-15.
Concordia won the final two matches to take the 21-15 win.
MSUM will compete at the Finn Grinaker Open at Concordia on Saturday. Bosch and Blees are scheduled to compete at the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Invitational in Kearney, Neb.
