Box Score 1 WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 5-1 win over Bemidji State on Tuesday. In an exhibition later that morning, MSUM rolled past Central Lakes College, 9-0.

"Our pitchers threw great," MSUM head coach Kelsey Fehl said. "Our hitters were able to produce some runs early and that set the momentum for the day. Our defense made some good adjustments from Monday."

In the win over Bemidji State,  Bruni was 3-for-4 with three RBI for MSUM while freshman shortstop Taylor Roddie was 2-for-4.  Senior pitcher Kristen Nordby was 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.  Junior third baseman Kristina Villalobos, junior first baseman Lauren Meeker and junior second baseman Jill Fox had hits for the Dragons.

Nordby was stellar on the mound, firing a five-hitter and allowing one earned run. She struck out seven and walked just one.

The Dragons got on the board first when Bruni drove home Roddie with an RBI double in the first inning to give MSUM a 1-0 lead.

Bemidji State tied the game at 1-1 in the second. MSUM got rolling in the third. With one out, junior center fielder Carly Williamson reached on an error. One out later, she moved to third on a double by Villalobos. Bruni doubled to left to score both runners, putting MSUM up 3-1. The next batter, Nordby, homered to center to score  Bruni, pushing the lead to 5-1.

That was plenty for Nordby, who moved to 1-0 on the season.

Bruni led the way for MSUM in the exhibition win over Central Lakes, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Meeker had two RBI while Williamson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
