Box ScoreFARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opened the 2016 season with a 9-0 win over Concordia College in nonconference action Friday night at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM is 1-0 on the year while the Cobbers fell to 0-1.
"I couldn't ask for a better way to start the season," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "You wouldn't know it but some of our team was a little nervous but they did a good job of working through it and ended up putting on an efficient, focused display."
The Dragons rolled in doubles, losing just four games in the three matches. Sophomore
Jade Goodyear-Anderson and junior
Maria Moral Carretero rolled to an 8-2 win over Brittany Glatt and Jade Haseltine at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Jessamy Jones and
Ashley Wood rolled to an 8-1 win over Kendra Stoick and Lisa Neumann at No. 2. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Morgan Smith and sophomore
Ricquel Ramsbottom completed the sweep for MSUM with an 8-1 win over Susan Zniewski and Breann Adamek.
MSUM was equally dominant in singles, losing seven games in the six matches. Jones beat Glatt, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Goodyear-Anderson beat Stoick, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Moral Carretero beat Haseltine, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Smith picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Neumann at No. 4 singles. Wood and Ramsbottom both rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins in their singles matches to give MSUM a sweep.
The Dragons open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday against Mary. The dual is at 1:30 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
