Box ScoreFARGO, N.D. — For the second straight day, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team recorded a 9-0 win, beating the University of Mary in a dual match Saturday in Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Mary fell to 0-1 and 0-1 in the league.
"i was proud of the team today," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Mary was a better team that Concordia but ti didn't take us long to get up to speed. There were some competitive matches and we didn't lose a set. Every player stayed focused and worked hard from start to finish."
The Dragons did not lose a set in singles. Junior
Jessamy Jones earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mary's Sarah Janes at No. 1 singles, while sophomore
Jade Goodyear-Anderson earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-4 win over Catherine Gibbens at No. 2 singles.
Junior
Maria Moral Carretero remained undefeated with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Meredith Holt at No. 3 singles for MSUM, and senior
Morgan Smith picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anastasia Bruss at No. 4 singles.
Senior
Ashley Wood defeated Eileen Leong, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and sophomore
Ricquel Ramsbottom completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 over Monica Benda at No. 6.
In doubles, Goodyear-Anderson and Moral Carretero teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Dragons, while Jones and Wood beat Gibbens and Leong in a hard-fought 9-7 contest at No. 2 doubles. Smith and Ramsbottom won in impressive fashion, with an 8-2 win over Bruss and Benda at No. 3 doubles.
The Dragons will compete in a pair of duals in Bismarck, N.D. on Feb. 13 and 14 against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.
