MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will face two conference opponents on Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. In the first match, which takes place at 2 p.m. the Dragons will face Minnesota Crookston, while in the second match, set to take place at 6 p.m., they will face Bemidji State.
The Dragons are 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
In their last match, the Dragons lost to Division I opponent Northern Colorado 9-0 to fall to 6-5 on the season. Northern Colorado won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The No. 3 singles match was close, as junior
Maria Moral Carretero hung tough with Hilary Walters-West before dropping the match 6-3, 6-4. The No. 5 singles match was also close, as MSUM senior
Ashley Wood lost to Lily-Ana Kreutzer 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore
Ricquel Ramsbottom leads MSUM with a 7-3 singles mark, while junior
Jessamy Jones, Wood, and senior
Morgan Smith are each 7-4. The Dragons are 38-28 (.576) in singles play this season.
In doubles, Jones and Woods have teamed up for a 7-4 mark, while Ramsbottom and Smith are 6-4.
Oliver Summers is in his fourth year as the MSUM head coach.
About the Golden EaglesMinnesota Crookston was last in action on March 19, when they lost 8-1 to Fairmont State in a match that was played in South Carolina. The loss dropped the Golden Eagles to 0-11 on the season. The Golden Eagles are led in singles play by Cathrine Brown, who has a 6-5 record on the season, with a conference record of 3-4. In doubles play, the Beavers are led by Lindgren and Opp, who have a 9-2 season record, with a conference record of 5-2. The Beavers are led by head coach Mark Fodness, who is in his fourth season.
