ABERDEEN, S.D. – A three-run fourth inning and a solid pitching performance by
Morgan Nybo helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team take a 3-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul in action Sunday in Aberdeen, S.D. MSUM had to settle for a split on the day as Concordia won Game 2 by a 12-2 score.
Senior left fielder
Kristy Bruni was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while freshman shortstop
Taylor Roddie was 2-for-3 with a double. Senior second baseman
Kristen Nordby and sophomore second baseman
Sydney Beck were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman catcher
Savanah Tweet had a double, while junior third baseman
Kristina Villalobos added a hit.
Senior pitcher
Morgan Nybo got the win, going the distance. She allowed four hits and one earned run, walking four and striking out three.
The game was deadlocked heading into the bottom of the fourth. Roddie led off with a double, and scored on an RBI single by Nordby, who moved to second on the throw. Bruni hit a bloop single to right to score Nordby, and one out later, Beck singled through the left side to score Bruni, giving MSUM a 3-0 lead.
Concordia cut the lead to 3-1 in the seventh with a solo homer by Emily Shinn. MSUM escaped without any further damage after the Golden Bears put two runners on, as Nybo got a groundout to end the game.

Kelsey Fehl said. "Offensively we put together a good inning when we really needed it."
In the second game, senior
Carly Williamson was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Nordby was 1-for-1 with two RBI. Beck was 1-for-1 with a walk. Novacek, Roddie and Villalobos each had hits for MSUM.
Nordby started and took the loss for MSUM, giving up six earned runs in 1.1 innings. She walked three and allowed six hits. Redshirt freshman
Gabby Williams pitched 1.1 innings of relief and allowed six runs (five earned). Nybo pitched the final 2.1 innings and didn't allow a run, striking out two.
Concordia led 1-0 after the top of the first; the Dragons came back with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Williamson led off with a walk, and Roddie reached on a bunt single. On the bunt, both runners advanced a base on an error. Nordby delivered a two-run single to score both runners. The Dragons had runners on first and third with one out, but a double play on a line out to the pitcher ended the inning.
The Golden Bears broke open the game with a seven-run second inning, and added four runs in the third to make it 12-2.
MSUM hosts Minot State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
