MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team lost a 1-0 contest to the University of Sioux Falls in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup Sunday in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC with the loss while Sioux Falls improved to 1-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC.
Alexa D'Acunto scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute of the first half. D'Acunto led all Cougars with five shots, including four on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Reagan VonBerge had seven saves in net for the Dragons, with one goal allowed. MSUM tallied 10 total shots, including four on goal. Senior captain Jessica Johnson led the way with three total shots and two on goal. Sophomores Annika Greaney and Ashley Coleman, and freshman Maren Soupir each had two shots. Senior Megan Selanders tallied one shot.
MSUM tried to battle back late in the second half. A scramble in from of the USF goal saw Jessica Johnson get an opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net, but the Cougars goalkeepter Morgan Perkins made a terrific save to keep the Dragons off the board.
"It was a tough loss for us," MSUM head coach Christie Chappell said. "We have to execute a little bit better than we did today on some of the details."
The Dragons hit the road for the first time this season on Friday, Sept. 23 against Minnesota Duluth. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
