DULUTH, Minn. — Senior forward
Jessica Johnson scored her third goal of the season, but the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team fell short on the road on Friday night, falling to Minnesota Duluth by a 3-1 score in action in Duluth, Minn.
MSUM is now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while UMD is 3-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the league.
Johnson had a goal and led MSUM with three shots, all on goal. Sophomore
Ashley Coleman had three shots, two on goal, while freshman
Mackenzie Monten and sophomore forward
Annika Greaney each had shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Reagan VonBerge had 14 saves, a career-high, in the contest for the Dragons.
The Bulldogs led 1-0 at halftime, and scored twice on penalty kicks in the second half, including one at the 52:31 mark to take a 2-0 lead.
Seconds later, Johnson scored her team-best third goal to bring MSUM within 2-1. UMD added another goal on a penalty kick at the 61:59 mark to push the lead to 3-1.
"It was a great effort and fight from the team," MSUM head coach
Christie Chappell said. "It was unfortunate to have two penalty kicks against us in one half of soccer but we have to be able to deal with tough situations on the road and still come away with a result."
MSUM hosts St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
