MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match with No. 4 Wayne State (10-2, 2-2 NSIC) in straight sets Friday night. The Dragons lost 25-12, 25-23, 25-17.
 
MSUM is now 6-6 overall with a 1-3 mark in NSIC play.
 
The Dragons had 25 total kills and a .070 hitting percentage with 24 assists, 55 digs and 14 total blocks. Freshman middle blocker 
Mikayla Larson had a team-high and career-high .556 hitting percentage going 6-for-9 at the net. Larson also had two blocks.
 
Junior captain hitter 
Carly Masloski had six kills to go along with two digs and two blocks. Junior middle blocker 
Taylor Liesemeyer and redshirt-freshman hitter 
Ellie Rutten each had four kills.
 
Sophomore libero 
Monica Vega had a team-high 21 digs. Junior setter 
Rachel Sanow had 10 assists, while redshirt-freshman setter 
Makayla Wenzel had 12.
 
MSUM jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the first set, but a long run by Wayne State put the game out of reach, and the Wildcats finished the first set with a 25-12 win. The second set saw a much tighter contest. The two teams battled back-and-forth the entire set. Tied at 23-23 Wayne State scored the next two points to win the second set. The third set saw the Wildcats jump out to an 11-1 lead, and they would not relinquish that lead the remainder of the set, winning 25-17.
 
Up next, MSUM hosts #14 Augustana (10-1, 3-0 NSIC) in a NSIC matchup at Nemzek Fieldhouse on Saturday, Sept. 24. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
