MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is now 7-12, 2-9 NSIC. Last weekend, the Dragons fell No. 18-ranked Augustana University and No. 21 Wayne State College, 3-0. The week, the Dragons will wrap up their road stretch at University of Minnesota Crookston, Friday at 6 p.m., and Bemidji State University, Saturday at 2 p.m.

University of Minnesota Crookston
Minnesota Crookston is 4-15 overall and 1-9 in the NSIC, with its lone conference victory over Bemidji State, 3-2. Last week, the Golden Eagles fell to Minnesota State, 3-1, and were swept by No. 3-Concordia-St. Paul. UMC is hitting .152, compared to its opponents at .253. Kassi Green leads the offense with 243 kills, averaging 3.98 per set. She ranks fourth in the NSIC in kills per set. Kelci Green has 129 kills, while Kaitlin Sikkink has 86. Senior setter Kaycie Hagen has 505 set assists, averaging 8.42 per set. Kelci Green leads UMC in blocks with 47, while Sikkink has 35. Maggie Perrel leads the Golden Eagles with 196 digs this season, averaging 3.21 per set. Becca Vandenheuvel has 161 digs, while Hagen has 156 and Kassi Green has 142. The Golden Eagles are under the direction of first-year head coach Sarah Rauen. The Dragons lead the all-time series against the Golden Eagles, 32-3. Last time the two teams met, the Dragons came out on top with a 3-2 victory.
Bemidji State University
Bemidji State is 3-17, 0-11 NSIC. Last week, the Beavers were swept by Minnesota State and No. 3-Concordia-St. Paul. Bemidji State is hitting .109 this season, compared to .229 for its opponents. Sami Leach leads Bemidji State in kills with 126, averaging 1.83 per set. Julie Touchett has 97 kills, while Anna Averkamp has 96. Maddie Filipiak leads in blocks with 56, while Touchett has 46. Leach leads with 361 set assists, averaging 5.23 assists per set. Emma Hallmann has 22 service aces for the Beavers, averaging .32 per set. Hallmann also leads the back row defense with 218 digs, while Becka Cronin has 143 and Leach has 137. The Beavers are led by head coach, Kevin Ulmer, who's in his second season. MSUM leads the all-time series against BSU, 76-55. Last time the teams met, the Dragons won, 3-2.

Vega Keeps Digging
Monica Vega added 40 more digs this past weekend with 23 vs. Augustana and 17 vs. Wayne State. Vega is ranked second in the NSIC with a total of 368 digs this season, averaging 5.41 per set. Vega is 58 digs away from reaching the 10th place all-time leader for MSUM at 1,282 digs.
Strong Net Defense
The Dragons are ranked sixth in the conference in blocks with a team total of 158.5, averaging 2.30 blocks per set. Freshman
Kylie Kanwischer has been consistent at the net this season, and even earned defensive player of the week earlier this season.
Kaylyn Jenkins has excelled in blocks, including her performance vs. SMSU where she had 11 total blocks. Kanwischer and Jenkins each have 71 total blocks this season, averaging 1.04 blocks per set. The middle blockers lead the Dragons in blocks and are tied for 5th place in the NSIC.
Dragons to Face Tough Slate This Season
MSUM's 28-game 2017 schedule features seven matches against teams ranked in the AVCA Preseason Top-25, five of which are in the top-10. The Dragons play No. 1 Concordia - St. Paul, No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State, No. 5 Winona State, No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, No. 10 Augustana, No. 13 Winona State and No. 24 Northern State.
Blake Braces for 23rd Season
Head coach
Tammy Blake enters her 23rd season as head coach of the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball program. Since taking over in Moorhead, Blake has lead MSUM to three NSIC championships and three NCAA appearances.
Bob Jones and
Madison Halterman are both in their second season as assistant coaches.
