MANKATO, Minn. — Four players scored in double figures as the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team earned an 81-64 win over Minnesota State, Mankato in action Saturday in Mankato, Minn.
MSUM is now 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while MSU fell to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Junior guard
Jacky Volkert had 24 points and nine assists to pace MSUM while senior guard
Cassidy Thorson had 18 points, two steals and six rebounds. Senior forward
Drew Sannes had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while adding a season-high six blocks. Sophomore guard
Kourtney Selensky made her regular-season debut after missing time with an injury and had 11 points and six rebounds.
MSUM shot 45 percent (27-of-60) for the game while holding the Mavericks to 32.4 percent (23-of-71). The Dragons outrebounded Minnesota State 46-38.
Volkert had 10 first-half points as the Dragons built a 44-28 halftime advantage. The Dragons led by as many as 19 when Thorson buried a three with 4:30 left in the first half to make it 42-23.
The Mavericks cut the lead to six heading into the fourth quarter and closed the gap to 59-57 with 7:47 left. MSUM survived the rally and held the Mavericks to three points over the final 4:55 to get the win. Volkert, who finished 13-of-13 from the free-throw line, was 8-of-8 in the final three minutes to help the Dragons rebuild the lead.

Shannon Galegher had seven points off the bench.
The Dragons wrap up the weekend at Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
