MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State in action Friday at the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while SMSU fell to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in the league.
"We saw great improvement in doubles today and all the players showed great focus throughout the match," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said.
The Dragons did not lose a set on the day and swept all three doubles matches.
At No. 1 doubles, senior
Jessamy Jones and freshman
Chessa Jones teamed up for a 9-7 win over SMSU's Gabby Tellijohn and Paige Janka. MSUM won by comfortable 8-1 margins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Dragons were as dominant.
Jessamy Jones earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tellijohn while freshman
Olivia Keelin beat Hannah Starke, 6-0, 6-2.
Senior
Ricquel Ramsbottom beat Janka, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles while freshman
Alexis Konecne beat Britney Thompson, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0. Senior
Maria Moral Carretero rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jenna Gannott, while freshman
Emma Zamora won the No. 6 singles match by a 6-4, 6-1 score of SMSU's Brittany Soupir.
MSUM faces Minnesota State, Mankato at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
