SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team won its third straight match with a 5-4 win over Minnesota State in action Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM is now 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the NSIC while Minnesota State fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.
MSUM trailed 2-1 after the doubles competition. The Dragons' win came at the No. 2 slot as freshmen
Olivia Keelin and
Alexis Konecne teamed up for an 8-3 win over MSU's Kelly Lechowski and Kelly Spielman.
The Dragons rebounded to win four of the six singles matches. The decisive match came at No. 1 singles where senior
Jessamy Jones beat MSU's Erin Streeter, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 after trailing one set in the match.
"Three weeks ago we would not have been able to beat a talented team like this," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We have improved so much and are not even close to reaching our ceiling.
Jessamy Jones is such a clutch player, and to come back from a set down to win the meet for us was impressive."
Keelin picked up a straight set win at No. 2 singles for MSUM as she beat Lechowski, 6-1, 7-5. Konecne also won her singles match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over MSU's Monika Ryan at the fourth slot.
Senior
Maria Moral Carretero also won at the No. 5 singles slot for the Dragons, taking a 6-1, 6-3 win over Killian Doran.
MSUM is off until March 7-9 when it will compete on its annual spring break trip in Florida.
