Tori White fired a complete game six-hitter and sophomore shortstop
Taylor Roddie had four hits to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team earn a 6-1 win over Minnesota Crookston in nonconference action Tuesday at West St. Paul, Minn. The win gave MSUM a split on the day as the Dragons fell 7-3 to Bemidji State to open the day.
MSUM is now 2-5 in the nonconference season.
White had the best outing of her young Dragon career, going the distance. She scattered six hits and allowed one unearned run. She struck out three and walked none.
Roddie was 4-for-4 with a homer, an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman third baseman
Emma Dummer was 1-for-3 with two RBI while
Savanah Tweet had a triple and an RBI. Sophomore
Aunica Novacek had a hit and an RBI while freshman outfielder
Madison Paige, senior outfielder
Hannah Klug and senior first baseman
Lauren Meeker each had hits. Freshman
Jordan Hall had an RBI.
Roddie's solo homer with one out in the first gave MSUM a 1-0 lead. Roddie started a rally in the third with a single, and was followed by a single by Paige. Meeker walked and Dummer walked to force in a run, making it 2-0. Paige scored on an RBI groundout by Tweet, and a squeeze bunt by Hall scored Meeker, making it 4-0.
The Golden Eagles scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-1,
In the fifth, Tweet led off with a triple, and scored on Novacek's RBI groundout. MSUM added an insurance run in the six when Dummer's RBI single scored Roddie. That was plenty for White, who picked up the first collegiate win of her career.
Earlier in the day, MSUM fell to Bemidji State, 7-3.
Paige was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Roddie and Tweet each had doubles while senior outfielder
Carly Williamson and Hall each had hits. Novacek had an RBI .
Freshman
Becky Volkert took the loss, going 4.2 innings and allowing six runs, all earned. Hall finished with 2.1 innings; she did not allow an earned run while striking out two.
MSUM heads south for its annual spring break trip in Clermont, Fla. The Dragons open play on Sunday with games against Nyack and Northwood.
