FARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opened the regular-season with a 9-0 nonconference win over Concordia College in action Friday at Courts Plus in Fargo N.D.
MSUM is now 1-0 on the season and Concordia fell to 0-2.
All nine players on the Dragon roster contributed to the win.
"The team has been working hard since the start of school to begin for the season and it's paying off," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "I couldn't think of a better way to start this year."
The Dragons lost just seven games in sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, senior
Jessamy Jones and junior
Ricquel Ramsbottom beat Concordia's Kendra Stoick and Ivy Mattson, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles junior
Maria Moral Carretero and freshman
Chessa Jones took care of Lisa Neumann and Breann Adamek by an 8-4 score. The sweep was completed at No. 3 as freshmen
Maia Wendel and Danielle Unruch teamed up for an 8-1 win over Mikaila Carney and Talia Dalzell.
The Dragons didn't lose a set in singles. Jones beat Neumann, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while freshman
Olivia Keelin won in her collegiate debut topping Stoick 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 singles freshman
Alexis Konecne beat Mattson, 6-1, 6-3 while Ramsbottom dominated Adamek, 6-0 , 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Moral Carretero beat Carney, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and freshman
Emma Zamora completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dalzell at No. 6 singles.
MSUM hits the road next weekend to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Dragons will face Minnesota Duluth at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will battle St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Virginia, Minn.
