MSUM-Mary Tennis
BISMARCK, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team won five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-3 win over the University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in Bismarck, N.D.
MSUM is now 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC while Mary fell to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in the league.
The Dragons were without a pair of regulars in their lineup, senior
Maria Moral Carretero and freshman
Maia Wendel missing the match because of injury.
"This was a very good win for us," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "With Maria and Maia injured we relied heavily on our freshmen and they really pulled through. We hope to be back to full strength before next weekend."
The Dragons' lone doubles win came at No. 2, where the freshmen tandem of
Olivia Keelin and
Alexis Konecne beat Mary's Eileen Leong and Anastasia Bruss, 8-5. Mary won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-5 score and at No. 3 by an 8-6 score.
The momentum turned in singles. Senior
Jessamy Jones beat Mary's Meredith Holt, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Keelin earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lucia Bolibruch at No. 2 singles. Junior
