FARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 nonconference victory over Minnesota-Morris in action Friday night at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM is now 9-5 on the year while UMM fell to 0-3.
The Dragons lost just two games on the night – one in singles and one in doubles – on their way to a convincing win.
"I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a tennis team with greater support from our university than ours," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We had the president, the athletic director and assistant AD who was live streaming every court and even a math professor, not to mention all the other student athletes who came to support. The team definitely put on a good show for them."
MSUM dominated in doubles. Senior
Jessamy Jones and freshman
Chessa Jones cruised to an 8-0 win over Suzanne Coleman and Mackenzie Burris at No. 1 doubles, while the freshman tandem of
Olivia Keelin and
Alexis Konecne topped Brittney Ferrian and Kelsey Fisher, 8-1. Another MSUM freshmen tandem,
Danielle Unruh and
Emma Zamora, rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Hanna Gasaway and Erika Wielenga.
The Dragons were equally as dominant in singles. Keelin beat Coleman, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while junior
Ricquel Ramsbottom beat Burris, 6-0, 6-0. Konecne beat Ferrian, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while senior
Maria Moral Carretero prevailed easily over Fisher at No. 4 singles by an identical score.
Chessa Jones downed Wielenga, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles with Unruh prevailing, 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth singles spot.
MSUM ventures back into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on April 1-2 when the Dragons take on Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston in Virginia, Minn.
