MSUM Women's Tennis Resumes NSIC Play This Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will head to Virginia, Minn., for two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches on Sunday. The Dragons will face Bemidji State at 8:45 a.m. and later that day will face Minnesota Crookston at noon at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.

About the Dragons
The Dragons enter the weekend with a 9-5 overall record, and a 4-3 conference record. They are coming off a 9-0 win over Minnesota Morris. In that match, the Dragons lost just two games, one in singles and one in doubles.

In doubles play, senior Jessamy Jones and freshman Chessa Jones cruised to an 8-0 win, while freshmen Olivia Keelin and Alexis Konecne won 8-1. Danielle Unruh and Emma Zamora also rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to round out doubles play. In singles play, the Dragons lost just one game while routing the Cougars.

The Dragons are led in singles play by senior Maria Moral Carretero, who has a 11-2 record. Keelin has a 9-2 record, while Jessamy Jones has a 9-4 season record. In doubles play, the Dragons are led by the Keelin/Konecne pairing, who are 9-4 on the season.

After this weekend, the Dragons will travel to Grand Forks to face the University of North Dakota before returning to Fargo to face Winona State and Upper Iowa.

MSUM is led by head coach Oliver Summers, who is in his fifth season as head coach.

About the Beavers
Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 10-3 overall record, and a 4-3 conference record. They were last in action against Minnesota-Crookston and UW River Falls, both of which were 9-0 wins. The top player for the Beavers is Brooke Mimmack, who has a 12-0 record this season. Other top singles players are Morgan Opp (10-2), Zoe Lindgren (8-3), Hannah Alme (8-3), and Ariadna Lopez-Simo (7-2). In doubles play, the Beacers are led by the pairing of Lindgren and Opp, who are 9-4 on the season. The other top doubles team is Aabrina Okeson and Breann Walsh, who have a 6-1 record this season. The Beavers are led by head coach Mark Fodness, who is in his fifth season as head coach.

About the Golden Eagles
Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend with an 0-11 record. They last competed against Bemidji State and the University of Wisconsin River Falls. Against Bemidji, they lost 9-0, while against UW-River Falls they lost 8-1, with their lone win coming at No. 3 singles. The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Lee Meier.
