ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, losing 12-1 and 6-5 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
In the opener, senior outfielder
Carly Williamson was 1-for-3 with a run scored for the Dragons. Senior first baseman
Lauren Meeker had a double, while freshman third baseman
Emma Dummer had a hit. Freshman designated hitter
Payton Gaber had an RBI and also reached on a walk.
Freshman
Jordan Hall was tagged with the loss, giving up six earned runs in 1.2 innings. She walked three and gave up five hits. Freshman
Tori White pitched in relief and gave up six runs, but only one was earned.
MSUM led 1-0 after a Gaber groundout scored Williamson but CSP scored 12 unanswered runs, using two home runs and three Dragon errors to break the game open.
Meeker led the offense in Game 2, going 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI. Dummer was 3-for-3 as well with a homer and two RBI. Williamson had two hits, while freshman
Madison Paige had a double. Pinch runners
Taylor Kelenic and
KyLee Bartholomay scored a run.
Freshman
Becky Volkert took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, in six innings. She walked one and gave up 13 hits.
Meeker hit a two-run homer in the first to put MSUM up 2-0, but Concordia answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. CSP pushed the lead to 4-2 before MSUM answered with runs in the third and fourth to tie the game at 4-4. The run in the third scored by Bartholomay came in on an RBI single by Meeker. Dummer hit a solo homer in the fourth to tie the game.
MSUM gained the lead in the fifth. Meeker singled and moved to second on a fielding error, and Kelenic pinch-ran for her. A groundout moved Kelenic to third. One out later, Dummer singled to score Kelenic, making it 5-4 MSUM.
The Golden Bears scored two unearned runs off of a Dragon error in the sixth to make it 6-5, and the Dragons were unable to tie the game in the seventh.
MSUM plays at Minnesota State, Mankato at noon on Sunday in Mankato, Minn.
