MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will finish the regular season this weekend with three matches including two conference matchups. They will travel to Grand Forks, N.D., on Friday to face Division I foe North Dakota before hosting Winona State (3 p.m.) and Upper Iowa (9 a.m.) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The home matches will be at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D. Saturday the two Dragon seniors,
Jessamy Jones and
Maria Moral Carretero, will be honored prior to the match.
About the Dragons
The Dragons are 11-5 overall, and 6-3 in the conference. Their last action came last weekend when they defeated Bemidji State 5-4, and Minnesota Crookston 9-0. Against Bemidji, the Dragons lost two of three doubles matches, with only
Ricquel Ramsbottom and
Maria Moral Carretero winning. They made up for it in singles play, as they won four of the six matches. Against Crookston, the Dragons won all nine matches, including three wins by forfeit.
The top performer in singles play for MSUM is Moral Carretero, who is 13-2 on the season. Other top singles performers include
Olivia Keelin (10-2),
Jessamy Jones (11-4), and
Chessa Jones (7-4). In doubles play, the Dragons are led by the pairing of Keelin and
Alexis Konecne, who are 10-5 on the season as a pair.
About the Fighting Hawks
The Fighting Hawks are 7-14 overall on the season, and 4-5 in the Big Sky Conference. Their last action came on Saturday, when they lost to Northern Arizona 7-0. Before they face MSUM, they will host Montana State on Friday morning.
The top performer for UND is Faith Lee, who is 10-11 in singles play on the season. The top doubles pairing is Preethl Kasllingham and Lee, who are 7-8 on the season as a pairing.
About the Warriors
Winona State will enter the match with a 10-5 overall record and a 7-2 NSIC record. Their last action was last weekend, when they lost to Augustana and defeated Sioux Falls.
The Warriors are led in singles play by Kendra Kappes, who is 10-3 on the season. Other top performers are Tayla card (9-6), Katie Scruggs (9-5), and Rachel Gantz (8-7). In doubles play, their top team is Rachel Gantz and Kaisey Skibba, who are 6-2 on the season as a team.
About the Peacocks
Upper Iowa enters the match with a 7-4 overall record, and a 7-2 conference record. UIU's last action was last weekend when they defeated Sioux Falls 8-1 and lost to Augustana on Sunday.
Their top performer is Isabella Sella, who is 6-1 on the season. Other top performers are Anna Okolot (6-2), Shakhnaza Zhanatova (6-3), and Linn Sorman (5-4). In doubles play, their top team is Zhanatoba and Jachymowski, who are 6-3 on the season.
After the weekend, the Dragons will be off until the NSIC tournament on April 21.
