MSUM Men Drop 95-85 NSIC Contest to Augustana

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team fell to Augustana University, 95-85, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night. Six Dragons scored in double-digits for MSUM.
 
The Dragons fell to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in the NSIC, while Augie improved to 11-6, 6-5 NSIC.
 
Senior guard Tanner Kretchman scored season-high 25 points and added two assists. Junior Addison Park had thirteen points, five rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Travaun Coad scored his third consecutive double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Johnny Beeninga had 12 points and one steal, while Jake Johnson also scored 12 points to tie his career high.
 
MSUM shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field, compared to the Vikings at 58.1 percent (36-of-62). The Dragons shot a season-best 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from beyond the arc. Augustana held a 30-29 edge in rebounds.
 
The Vikings got off to an early 20-4 lead within the first seven minutes of the first half. MSUM went on a 14-7 run to cut the lead to seven, however Augie came back to hold and 18-point lead with under a minute to play in the first half. Although, the Dragons scored five consecutive points, Augustana still held a 13-point lead going into halftime.
 
MSUM came within as few as nine points of the Vikings in the second half, but never saw a lead. Although the Dragons outscored Augustana 47-44 in the second half, MSUM wasn't able to comeback from the first half deficit.
 
Junior guard Briton Bussman had ten points and three assists off the bench for the Dragons.
 
MSUM hosts Wayne State College Saturday at 6 p.m. to conclude its four-game homestand.
