MSUM Wrestlers Host Marauders on Sunday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will continue NSIC competition on Sunday when they host the University of Mary Marauders. The dual will begin at 3 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

The Dragons (1-5, 0-3 NSIC) are coming off a 30-12 loss to Augustana in a dual that saw three Dragons pick up wins, including freshman Cole Jones, who won a 6-2 decision at 125 pounds. Junior Zach Scott won an 8-4 decision at 141 pounds while Preston Lehmann picked up a first period fall at 197 pounds.

The Dragons are led by junior Adam Blees, who is ranked 10th in the nation in the latest NCAA D2 Wrestling Coaches Association Poll at 174 pounds. Blees is 12-7 on the season. Jones is having a good freshman campaign, compiling a 13-10 record thus far at 125. Other Dragons who are faring well are Scott (11-11) and redshirt freshman Jordan Magnuson (11-7).

Kris Nelson is in his ninth season as the MSUM head coach.

About the Marauders
The Marauders bring a 4-5 overall record and a 1-2 conference record into the matchup. They have wins over Concordia Moorhead, Upper Iowa, University of Central Missouri, and Minot State. They are coming off a 32-6 loss to No. 1 St. Cloud State University.

The Marauders are led by redshirt sophomore Rudy Guillen (149), who is 14-2 on the season. Junior Tate Barnhardt (133) isn't far behind with a record of 20-5. Phillip Springsteen (165) is 19-5 on the season, while Dominic Tudor is 13-8 on the season.

The head coach of the Marauders is Adam Aho, who is in his fifth season.

Up Next
The Dragons will host No. 1 St. Cloud State on Feb. 1 before traveling to Aberdeen, SD to face the Northern State Wolves. They will wrap up the regular season with two home duals, against Southwest Minnesota State and Minot State before going to St. Cloud, Minn. for the Super Region 3 tournament.
