MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead and held on for a 72-69 win over Minot State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM is now 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the NSIC while Minot fell to 6-7 overall and 3-6 in the league.
The Dragons shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) for the game while Minot State shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61). MSUM had a 36-32 edge in rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Megan Hintz had her second career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward
Drew Sannes had 17 points and four blocks, while junior guard
Jacky Volkert had 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
A solid first half helped the Dragons take a 35-25 after the first 20 minutes, thanks to eight points from Hintz and six each from sophomore guard
Kourtney Selensky and senior guard
Cassidy Thorson had six each.
A Volkert three-pointer with 6:08 left in the third gave MSUM its largest lead at 42-29. Minot State cut the lead to 51-43 after three quarters and got as close as three twice in the fourth quarter. However, a desperation three at the buzzer missed, giving MSUM the three-point win.
Freshman guard
Kiley Borowicz and Thorson finished with eight points each.
MSUM hosts the University of Mary at 4 p.m. on Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
