MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter on its way to a 67-56 win over the University of Mary in action Saturday at the Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM is now 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Mary fell to 6-10 overall and 2-8 in league play.
Junior guard
Jacky Volkert had a strong all-around game for MSUM, scoring 20 points, adding eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Sophomore forward
Megan Hintz had 17 points and six rebounds while senior forward
Drew Sannes has 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
The Dragons shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) while Mary shot 34.4 percent (22-of-64). The Dragons had a 43-39 edge in rebounds.
The Dragons held a 53-50 lead just 20 seconds into the fourth quarter but held the Marauders to just six points over the final nine minutes. A Sannes jumper at the 3:06 mark made it 65-51 and the lead never dropped below nine the rest of the way. MSUM outscored Mary 14-8 in the final frame.
MSUM built a 27-15 lead after one quarter, as Hintz had 11 points and Volkert nine. The lead was 39-31 at halftime as Volkert and Hintz each had 13 first-half points.
Mary cut the lead to three early in the second half and for the rest of the quarter the game was close.

Madi Green had five rebounds while freshman guard
Kiley Borowicz had six points for the Dragons.
MSUM hosts unbeaten Augustana at 6 p.m. on Friday in a crucial NSIC matchup. The Vikings lead the league by one game over Northern State and Winona State and two over the Dragons.
