FAYETTE, Iowa – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team was defeated on the road on Saturday, falling in three sets to Upper Iowa, 25-18, 25-16, 25-10 in Fayette, Iowa.

MSUM, which has lost four matches in a row, fell to 9-9 overall and 5-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the loss while Upper Iowa improved to 12-7 overall and 5-6 in the league.

Freshman OH Amanda Carlson led MSUM with 13 kills. No other Dragon had more than four kills. Senior libero Monica Vega had 14 digs while sophomore setter Lauren Kiewiet had 9 to go with 11 set assists.  Freshman setter Katelyn Selensky and junior middle blocker Kaylyn Jenkins had two block assists each.

Upper Iowa hit .339 for the match with 49 kills while MSUM hit .096 with 26 kills.

MSUM fell behind 16-7 in the first set but battled back to within 19-15 after a kill by sophomore middle blocker Kylie Kanwischer. The Dragons would get no closer as they fell 25-18.

The Dragons faced a 13-7 deficit in Set 2 but battled back to within 13-11 after a Peacock error. A block from Jenkins and Selensky made it 18-16 in favor of Upper Iowa, but the Peacocks scored the final seven points to secure a 25-16 win.

Upper Iowa built a commanding lead early in the third set and went on to take a 25-10 win.

MSUM returns home to host No. 2 ranked Northern State on Tuesday.
