ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort
to down the Northern State Wolves in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener on Saturday night by a score of 47-39.
MSUM improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC, while NSU falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC.
The Dragon defense forced 25 turnovers and held the Wolves to just 33.3 percent shooting (14-of-42).
The Dragons carried a 20-13 advantage into the second half thanks to a six-point run in the last three
minutes of the first half. MSUM held the momentum for the majority of the game, and held the lead
for 32:55 of the contest.
Sophomore guard
Kiley Borowicz led the team with 12 points (10 in the second half) and five steals, while senior guard
Jacky Volkert had 11 points and two assists. Junior forward
Megan Hintz recorded eight rebounds to go
along with nine points.
The Wolves came out of the break with more pressure, but the Dragons were able to outscore NSU 27-
26 in the second half to maintain the lead. Borcowicz had three steals in the in second half, while Hintz
and Volkert combined for 16 points.
MSUM is on the road again next week when they face Minnesota Crookston on Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. and
Bemidji State on Dec. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
