MSUM Women's Tennis Reaches 3-0 with 6-3 Win Over Bulldogs

Box Score
FARGO, N.D. — Led by a sweep in doubles, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 win over Minnesota Duluth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Fargo, N.D.

MSUM is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC while UMD is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

"The potential was there to win this one 9-0 but UMD battled hard after they realized they had nothing to lose. Our strong doubles play really set the tone overall and I'm pleased with that," MSUM head coach Oliver Summers said. "Even with the losses in the super tiebreaks we still played better than Saturday so we're continuing to improve."

Sophomore Olivia Keelin and freshman Julia Geske cruised to an 8-1 win over UMD's tandem of Shelby Benofske and Megan Anderson at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Swenne Albert and sophomore Alexis Konecne won in similar fashion, 8-1, over Katie Baasch and Elsa Erickson.

The No. 3 doubles match was close but MSUM prevailed. Senior Ricquel Ramsbottom and sophomore Emma Zamora survived for an 8-6 win over UMD's Natalie Cahill and Isabel Thiner.

Albert won at No. 3 singles for MSUM, beating Erickson 6-2, 6-2. At No. 5 singles Ramsbottom outlasted Baasch, 6-3, 6-4. Konecne also won in straight sets at No. 6 singles, dominating Thiner 6-2, 6-0.

All three MSUM singles losses were by super tiebreaker. Two of the super tiebreakers were decided by a 12-10 margin.

MSUM goes on the road next week to face Sioux Falls and Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D.
