WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a pair of nonconference games at the Dragon/Beaver Battle in West St. Paul, Minn. MSUM fell to Southwest Minnesota State, 10-2 and to Concordia-St. Paul, 8-0.
The Dragons fell to 1-5 in nonconference play.
In the loss to SMSU, Lexie Kennedy was 2-for-3 with an RBI while senior outfielder
Aunica Novacek was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman outfielder Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-2 while freshman first baseman Ashley McCance and sophomore third baseman
Payton Gaber were each 1-for-3.
Sophomore
Tori White took the loss for MSUM, giving up eight runs, only two of which were earned. She struck out none and walked three. Gaber finished and allowed two runs in the the sixth.
Kennedy's RBI single got the Dragons on the board in the first, and Novacek drove home a run in the second on a grounder.
The Dragons managed just two hits against CSP, as Johnson and sophomore outfielder
Madison Paige had hits. Johnson also reached by a walk.
Freshman pitcher Becky Berth allowed eight runs, seven runs, in 4 2/3 innings. She struck out two and walked two.
MSUM faces Bemidji State at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and Concordia-St. Paul at 11:30 a.m. to conclude the Dragon/Beaver Battle.
