FAYETTE, Iowa. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team fell to Upper Iowa University, 91-78 Saturday night. Despite a 43-33 lead by the Dragons halftime, the Peacocks rallied in the second half to take the win.
MSUM fell to 6-18 overall and 4-14 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, while the Peacocks improved to 14-13, 7-11 NSIC.
Junior forward Addison Park led MSUM, scoring a career-high 22 points and added a season high of nine rebounds. Senior guard Tanner Kretchman had 17 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Travaun Coad had 14 points and 12 rebounds, making it his eighth double-double of the season.
The Dragons shot 37.9 percent (26-of-66) from the field, while Upper Iowa shot 53.8 percent (35-of-65). The Peacocks also held a 42-39 edge in rebounds.
The Dragons led 16-8 at the 12:37 mark of the first half when Upper Iowa went on a 13-4 run to gain a 21-20 edge. However, MSUM came back to lead 43-33 going into halftime, capped off by a three from Kretchman to end the half.
The Peacocks went on a 20-5 within the first five minutes of the second half to quickly gain the lead. From there, Upper Iowa took control, leading for the remainder of the game to take a 91-78 NSIC victory.
Briton Bussman had 14 points and a team-high of three assists off the bench for the Dragons.
MSUM will remain on the road next weekend as they travel to take on Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston, Feb. 9-10.
