MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team is looking to start off another strong season on Friday when they face the Concordia Cobbers at 6 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D. That weekend they will also face the St. Cloud State Huskies (2 p.m. on Saturday) and the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (9 a.m. on Sunday).
The Dragons have just one senior on the roster, but they aren't short on experience. Senior Ricquel Ramsbottom had a 7-12 in singles competition and 8-7 in doubles competition. Sophomore Olivia Keelin had a 12-4 singes record and a 12-7 doubles mark while teaming up with sophomore Alexis Kocence. Konecne also played singles, going 7-11 last season. Sophomore Emma Zamora was 4-3 in singles last season and looks to factor in doubles this season.
Among the new additions are transfer Alyssa Wolf, and freshmen Swenne Albert and Julia Geske. All three are expected to be in the lineup this season.
"I feel like this could be the strongest team I have coached so far at MSUM," Head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We're looking for a strong start our opening weekend, with every player in the squad contributing immediately. Coming off a strong fall non-championship season we have our doubles teams pretty much set which is where we stuttered last year on our opening weekend.
After their opening weekend matchups, the Dragons will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to face Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls. After that they will go to Bismarck, N.D. for conference matchups with Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State before going to Orlando, Fla. For their annual spring break trip.
Four of the Dragons final six matches will be home matches hosted at Courts Plus in Fargo. They will wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Winona, Minn., where the will face Upper Iowa and Winona State before heading to Minnetonka, Minn. for the NSIC Championships on April 20-22.
