MSUM Softball Swept in Doubleheader by Marauders

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Mary on Wednesday in Bismarck, N.D., falling by scores of 5-2 and 10-2.

MSUM managed just 10 hits in the two games.

"It is important for us to have quality at-bats and produce when we have runners on base," MSUM head coach Kelsey Fehl said. "We have six games left in our regular season and we want to finish strong by being solid in all areas of the game."

In the opener, sophomore Payton Gaber was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore third baseman Emma Dummer was 2-for-3 while sophomore outfielder Madison Paige and senior outfielder Aunica Novacek each had hits. Freshman first baseman Ashley McCance scored two runs.
Freshman Becky Berth was the losing pitching, giving up five earned runs in six innings. She struck out five and walked one.

Gaber hit an RBI single to give MSUM a 1-0 lead in the third, but Mary scored four times in the bottom of the inning, with a pair of bloop hits beginning the rally, to take a 4-1 lead. MSUM's other run scored on an error in the sixth.

In Game 2, Paige and junior shortstop Taylor Roddie were each 1-for-2 with an RBI. Gaber added a double and a run scored while freshman outfielder Elizabeth Johnson had a hit and a run scored. Novacek reached twice on a walk. MSUM left seven runners on base in Game 2.

Sophomore Tori White took the loss, giving up seven runs (four earned) in three innings. She struck out three. Gaber gave up three runs in an inning of work.

MSUM hosts Northern State at 2 p.m. on Thursday to conclude its home season.
