MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team came up short on Sunday, falling 1-0 to the University of Mary on a windy afternoon in Moorhead.
The Dragons fall to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Marauders improve to 2-2-1 overall, 1-1-1 NSIC.
"The team put forth a good effort and had some moments to score," MSUM head coach
Christie Kopietz said. "Mary's keeper made some quality saves. It was good to get three points this weekend, and now it's time to set our sights at Sioux Falls on Friday."
Senior midfielder
Jessica Dallman led the Dragons with four shots and three shots on goal. Freshman midfielder
Olivia Johnson provided two shots on goal, while junior defender
Lindsey Brownell and senior defender
Kylee Billings each tallied a shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Kayleigh Sedlacek was in the net for MSUM and picked up eight saves on the day.
Both teams battled in the first half and went into intermission with a 0-0 score. The Marauders scored at the 67:53 mark to go up 1-0. The goal came from Caylin Cathey and was assisted by Megan Lowery. Cathey's goal was her fifth of the year.
The Dragons were unable to capitalize on several opportunities late in the game and Mary's Madisyn Waltman picked up the 1-0 win.
Up next, the Dragons will travel to take on the University of Sioux Falls Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. and Southwest Minnesota State University on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
