SIOUX FALLS, SD — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the University of Sioux Falls in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM falls to 1-5, 1-3 NSIC, while USF improves to 2-5, 1-3 NSIC.
MSUM was outshot 16-6 for the game and trailed 1-0 after the first half of play after a USF goal at the 12:23 mark.
The Dragons fired back with a goal at 55:15 to tie the game 1-1. The goal came from sophomore midfielder
Carly Jo Gamrath and was assisted by senior forward
Jessica Dallman. The Cougars were able to break the tie in the 81st minute and held off the Dragon attack for a 2-1 victory.
"We got off to a slow start but managed to pull it back to even with a great finish from Carly Jo," MSUM head coach
Christie Kopietz said. "We weren't sharp enough on the details to get the win or tie unforunately."
The goal from Gamrath was her team-leading second of the year, and the assist from Dallman was her first this season. Gamrath and senior defender
Kylee Billings led the team with two shots each, while senior defender
Kendall Schauer and junior midfielder
Rachel Jenson added one shot each.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kayleigh Sedlacek had five saves.
The Dragons are back in action Sunday when they take on Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. in Marshall, Minn.
