MARSHALL, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup on Sunday in Marshall, Minn.
MSUM improves to 2-5, 2-3 NSIC, while SMSU falls to 2-5, 2-3 NSIC.
The teams battled in the first half and went into intermission with a 0-0 score. The Dragons would waste no time as senior midfielder
Tomomi Nishihara scored her second goal of the season at the 51:39 mark. The goal was assisted by sophomore midfielder
Carly Jo Gamrath.
"It was a great team effort," MSUM head coach
Christie Kopietz said. "We were very focused for the whole 90 minutes. It was a wonderful finish from Tomomi and assist from Carly Jo."
Nishihara led the team with two shots on goal, while sophomore midfielder
Hannah Spielmann and senior forward
Jessica Dallman each had one. Junior defender
Kylee Billings added two shots and freshman midfielder
Olivia Johnson had one shot.

Kayleigh Sedlacek had four saves to pick up the first shutout of her collegiate career.
MSUM returns home to face Upper Iowa on Friday at 3 p.m. and Winona State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
