MSUM Fall Swept at Home by Mavericks

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team fell to Minnesota State University in three sets on Friday by scores of 25-11, 25-21, 25-15. The match was held at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

The Dragons are now 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks improve to 11-5 overall and 4-4 NSIC.

Junior middle blocker Kaylyn Jenkins led the team with eight kills. Freshman outside hitters Madison Wassink and Amanda Carlson each contributed five kills, and sophomore middle blocker Kylie Kanwischer followed with four kills. Sophomore setter Lauren Kiewiet and freshman setter Katelyn Selensky had 11 and nine assists, respectively. Kiewiet also led the team with 10 digs and Carlson followed with six.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 13-5 lead causing a Dragon timeout. MSUM had back-to-back points off a Wassink kill and a block by freshman Elise Bakke and Jenkins. Minnesota State continued to pressure the Dragons and took the first set by a score of 25-11.

In the second set, MSUM kept things close and pulled within one at 7-6 off a kill from Kanwischer. The Mavericks went on a five-point run to go up 15-8. The Mavericks were leading 22-17 before three kills from Jenkins brought the score to 22-21 and caused a Minnesota State timeout. Out of the timeout, the Mavericks closed out the set 25-21.

Minnesota State went up 8-1 in the third set. The Mavericks continued to apply the pressure and closed out the final set by a score of 25-15.

The Dragons will take on No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul at home tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Golden Bears lost to No. 3 Northern State in five sets.
