MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team dropped a three-set contest at home against No. 1-ranked Concordia-St. Paul 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 on Saturday.
The Dragons fall to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Golden Bears improve to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the NSIC.
Freshman right side hitter Layla Sanati-Zaker led the team with seven kills and freshman outside hitter
Amanda Carlson contributed six. Sophomore setter
Lauren Kiewiet had 13 assists and freshman setter
Katelyn Selensky followed with 10 assists. Senior libero
Monica Vega led the Dragons with 12 digs while Kiewiet had seven digs.
In the first set, the Dragons tied things up 5-5 with a kill from sophomore middle blocker
Kylie Kanwischer. The Golden Bears responded by going on several runs and took the opening set 25-15.
Set 2 featured close scores early as MSUM pulled within three at 10-7 off a kill from Sanati-Zaker. The teams traded points down the stretch, and the Dragons scored back-to-back points out of a timeout to make the score 19-16. CSP fought back and went on a three-point run to take the second set 25-19.
CSP came out on fire in the third set and quickly went up 12-3 before a Sanati-Zaker kill ended the run. The Dragons struggled to build momentum and eventually fell by a score of 25-15.
Next week, the Dragons will travel to face Winona State on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
