The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at home this weekend when they play host to the Northern State University Wolves. The contest will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the MSUM Soccer Field.
The Dragons were last in action when they traveled to Seattle, Wash. where they went 0-2, opening with a loss to Simon Fraser and ending the trip with a loss to Seattle Pacific.
Against Simon Fraser, the Dragons were led by sophomore
Carly Jo Gamrath who scored the lone goal in the 62nd minute. Seniors
Jessica Dallman and
Kylee Billings each recorded a shot. Junior goalkeeper
Kennedy Rodgers recorded four saves and freshman
Kayleigh Sedlacek had three.
In the matchup again Seattle Pacific University, Sedlacek recorded nine saves. Dallman had two shots, including one on goal. Juniors
Rachel Jenson and
Maren Soupir and Gamrath added shots for the Dragons.
Gamrath leads MSUM with one goal and two points while senior
Kendall Schauer has an assist. Dallman has three shots. Sedlacek leads with 12 saves.
Christie Kopietz is in her third season as the MSUM head coach.
Scouting Northern State
Northern State finished the 2017 season with a 5-10-2 overall record and a 4-9-2 NSIC record and are off to a 2-0 start on the season. The Wolves return two starters that made the NSIC All-Conference in the 2017 season, as Stephany Estrada was named to the third team and Shianne Rosselli to the honorable mention team. They will face Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 6. Northern opened the season with a 2-0 win over Black Hills State on Sept. 1 and followed with a 3-0 win over Jamestown. Senior Darian Leschewski, who was an All-NSIC First Team selection in 2016, leads Northern with three goals and three points. In goal Jessica Otto has nine saves and has not allowed a goal in 135 minutes of action. She is 2-0 on the season.

After the match-up with Northern State, the Dragons will play two more NSIC matches at home. On Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. the Dragons will face Minot State and take on on Sept. 16 will face UMary at 1 p.m.
