BISMARCK, N.D. — A big night from junior middle blocker
Kaylyn Jenkins helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team earn a 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 win over UMary in action Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. The victory avenged an earlier nonconference loss to the Marauders.
MSUM is now 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while UMary fell to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Jenkins had a match-high 15 kills, hitting an impressive .619 on the night. She also had one solo block and five assists.
Freshman outside hitter
Madison Wassink had eight kills, while
Amanda Carlson added six. Sophomore rightside hitter/setter
Lauren Kiewiet had 24 assists while
Katelyn Selensky had 13 assists and six block assists.
Senior libero
Monica Vega had 21 digs while sophomore
Taylor Thorson added 12. Sophomore middle blocker
Kylie Kanwischer had one solo block and four assists.
MSUM hit .217 for the match compared to .134 for the Marauders.
The Dragons had finished each set strong, thanks to a late surge. At the end of Set 2 Selensky and Jenkins teamed up for a block to make it 25-21. In the third set, Jenkins had back-to-back kills to secure the win. Jenkins had four kills in the third set alone, hitting .800.
MSUM travels to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State for an NSIC match on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
