MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team opened a three-match homestand with a 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 win over the University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Tuesday in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM is now 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC with the win while Mary fell to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in the league.
Freshman libero 
Brooke Walthall had a career-high 17 digs for MSUM while freshman setter 
Amber Bretwisch had 20 assists and sophomore setter 
Katelyn Selensky 15. The Dragons had a balanced hitting attack, led by 11 kills from sophomore 
Amanda Carlson and eight from freshman hitter 
Bridget Witzmann. Freshman 
Teeya Doppler and senior middle block 
Kaylyn Jenkins had seven kills each.
Jenkins had three solo blocks and one assist while Witzmann had two block assists.  MSUM hit .185 while UMary hit .132.
After the Marauders won the first set MSUM trailed 15-14 in the second before scoring four straight points — which included a kill from sophomore 
Elise Bakke and three UM errors — to take an 18-15 lead.  Mary came back to tie the game at 19-19 but the Dragons scored six of the next seven points, keyed by two kills from sophomore 
Sarah Petrbok, to win 25-20.
MSUM led 13-12 in the third set but scored four of the next five points — which included a kill from Carlson and a Selensky service ace — to take a 17-13 lead. MSUM never relinquished the lead in a 25-21 win.
The Marauders built a 6-2 lead to open the fourth set and led 19-17, but MSUM scored four points in a row — which included kills from Witzmann and Petrbok and a block from Jenkins — to take a 21-19 lead.  Moments later Jenkins finished off the match with a kill to help MSUM win 25-21.
MSUM hosts Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. on Friday.
