HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 11 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team saw its six-game unbeaten streak end with a 62-60 overtime loss to Cal State-San Marcos in nonconference action Thursday in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Dragons had a three-point attempt to win in the final seconds but the shot wouldn't fall.
MSUM fell to 6-1 on the season while CSSM, which is receiving votes in the WBCA D2 Coaches Poll and is ranked 17th in the D2SIDA National poll, improved to 6-0.
MSUM suffered its first overtime loss since Jan. 16, 2015 when the Dragons lost at Sioux Falls 76-71.
Senior forward
Megan Hintz led MSUM with 16 points. Junior guard
Sarah Jacobson had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Freshman guard
Katie Tornstrom had 10 points.
The Dragons shot 33.8 percent (23-of-68) compared to 39.7 percent (23-of-58). MSUM had a commanding 55-30 edge in rebounds, including 20-5 on the offensive glass.
In the overtime period, MSUM hit just 2-of-9 shots from the field while Cal State-San Marcos was 0-for-3; the Cougars, however went 6-of-8 from the line in the extra frame.
MSUM was down 62-58 with 43 seconds left but cut the lead to 62-60 on a basket by sophomore guard
Nicole Herbranson. After a missed three, MSUM had a chance in the final seconds but a three wouldn't fall to end the Dragons hopes.
MSUM led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter and took a 31-26 lead into halftime. Hintz and Tornstrom each had eight points to lead the Dragons in the opening 20 minutes.
Cal State San Marcos took a three-point lead late in the third quarter and held a one-point advantage going into the fourth.

Natalie Steichen led MSUM with four assists. Sophomore forward
Peyton Boom added six rebounds off the bench.
MSUM will play No. 14 UC-San Diego at 6 p.m. Central time on Friday in Honolulu.
