BISMARCK, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team put the finishing touches on a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship 3-peat with a 63-58 win over UMary Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. MSUM won the league regular season and north division titles outright by one game over Minnesota Duluth.
MSUM finished the regular season at 23-5 overall and 19-3 in the NSIC. UMary fell to 17-7 overall and 15-7 in the NSIC. The Dragons have won three straight NSIC regular season titles and an unprecedented four straight NSIC North Division titles.
Junior forward
Megan Hintz added her 15th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard
Jacky Volkert had 15 points and eight assists while junior forward
Madi Green had 10 points and five rebounds.
The Dragons trailed 15-9 with 4:57 left in the first quarter but responded with a 20-0 run to take a 29-15 lead in the second quarter. MSUM led 34-23 at halftime with Hintz scoring 12 first-half points.
The Marauders battled back to tie the game at 44-44 early in the fourth, but four straight points from Hintz put MSUM up 48-44 with 7:45 left and the Dragons never relinquished the lead.
Sophomore guard
Brooklyn Liegel had nine points for MSUM.
MSUM will host Upper Iowa in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
