MSUM Women's Tennis Returns Home for a Pair of NSIC Matches

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team returns home to the Courts Plus Tennis Facility for two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches this week. The Dragons will face Winona State University on Friday at 6 p.m. and Upper Iowa University on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out
MSUM was 2-0 last week with a 4-1 win over Bemidji State University and a 7-0 win over University of Minnesota Crookston. MSUM improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC. Julia Geske, Rachel Nguyen, Olivia Keelin each picked up two wins in singles.  Lorissa Yuen and Nguyen had two wins at No. 2 doubles, while Alexis Konecne and Emma Wood had two wins at No. 3 doubles.

Jalyn Kornblum Named MSUM Athlete of the Week
Kornblum was leading her match against Bemidji State before it was halted by time constraints and followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Minnesota Crookston's Hanna Ruckheim. Kornblum also teamed up with Rachel Nguyen for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Scouting the Opposition
Winona State University
The Warriors are 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC. WSU won their fifth straight match with a 5-2 victory over Sioux Falls before falling 7-0 to Augustana. WSU won the doubles point against USF with wins from Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba at No. 1 and Tayla Card and Kendra Kappes at No. 2. Kappes improved to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Sioux Falls. Card improved to 5-2 at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win against USF.

Upper Iowa University
The Peacocks are 1-5 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC after falling 4-1 to Sioux Falls and 7-0 to Augustana last week. The duo of Shakhnaza Zhanatova and Maryke Badenhorst teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against USF, but UIU dropped the matches at No. 2 and 3. Badenhorst boasts the team's best singles record with a 3-2 mark at No. 2. Zhanatova and Badenhorst have a team-best 4-1 record at No. 1 doubles this season. Deimante Krivickaite has a 2-2 record at No. 2 singles.

The Dragons will head to Orlando, Florida for five nonconference matches from March 4-8.
