CLERMONT, Fla. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a 9-1 contest to Assumption in non conference action Sunday in Clermont, Fla. The game was tied at 1-1 through five innings before Assumption broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning.
MSUM fell to 2-9 while Assumption improved to 1-0.
Junior third baseman
Emma Dummer was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while senior second baseman
Lexie Kennedy was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Freshmen outfielders
Shay Weber and Jordan Smith had the other Dragon hits.
Sophomore
Becky Berth took the loss, giving up nine runs, only four of which were earned, in 5.2 innings. She struck out four and walked two.
MSUM trailed 1-0 after three innings but tied the game in the fourth. Dummer led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Berth walked, and Kennedy followed with an RBI single to left to score Dummer, tying the game at 1-1.
Assumption used five hits and two Dragon errors to record the eight-run sixth.
The Dragons' game vs. the Czech Republic earlier in the day was an exhibition contest.
MSUM has a quick turnaround as it faces Anderson Broaddus at 8 a.m. Central time on Monday morning and follows with an afternoon game against Edinboro at 5 p.m.
