ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, falling 9-5 and 9-0 in St. Paul, Minn.
MSUM is now 13-32 overall and 7-21 in the league while CSP improved to 30-18 overall and 17-11 in the league.
Sophomore center fielder
Elizabeth Johnson had a big outing in Game 1, going 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBI. The homers were the first of Johnson's MSUM career. Junior first baseman
Payton Gaber also hit her first collegiate homer, a two-run shot, and finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore designated player
Ashley McCance was 1-for-3 with a run scored while freshman second baseman
Kaiya Sundeen had a double and senior shortstop
Taylor Roddie added a hit.
Sophomore pitcher
Becky Berth took the loss, giving nine runs, seven earned, in six innings. She struck out two and walked one.
Johnson's solo homer in the second got MSUM on the board and cut the lead to 2-1. CSP pushed the lead to 6-1, but MSUM rallied in the sixth, thanks to two-run shots from Gaber and Johnson, to cut the lead to 9-5.
CSP scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, two were unearned.
In the second game, Dummer and Gaber had MSUM's only two hits.
Freshman
Anna Lang took the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, in three innings. She struck out two. Berth allowed two earned runs in an inning of relief.
